I almost gave this book 5 stars just for being a book The last time I read a book was just under 3 years ago Since then I have been reading e books. It was the touch, the way the pages turned, the feel of a book, getting to use a bookmark, the great cover and most of all the smell That smell of paper, especially paper in a book published in 1988 Faded in colour with that second hand book aroma I recommend giving up books and reading e books to fully appreciate the value of books and the affect on our senses Have a break then dive in to the richness of books Now on with the review before I sound too weird The first action with this book is not to read the blurb on the back It gives away the story, how many deaths there are and who dies Way too specific and detailed Although, if you want a quick read then this 15 second blurb will suffice. The story is about a demon who resides inside a tree and infects and possesses a young boy This young lad gathers his friends to the tree house sitting atop the demon tree and draws them in to his dangerous and nasty plans I enjoyed this part of the book as the kids carry out their evil and menacing actions. What I found annoying was the various characters kids and adults constant SHOUTING, screaming and arguing which resulted in an overuse of exclamation marks Never mind a demon kid, the worst part of this community was the interaction between everyone.About two thirds through the book the focus of the story becomes the local sheriff s and DA s office as they try to find out what is happening in their community The demon and the evil kids never made another appearance apart from the possessed ringleader in a rushed ending I did not like this point of view change and wanted to read about the demon kids on their evil killing spree. The epilogue had a set up for a sequel, Tree House which was published the next year, 1989, although the story does not follow directly on.
